On Thursday, CBA agents conducted a search of, among others at the headquarters of the PKol and PZKosz in connection with the investigation of suspicion of issuing unreliable VAT invoices by the head of PKol Radosław Piesiewicz. Piesiewicz himself repeated that he would not resign.
As the spokesman of the head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration Jacek Dobrzyński, the activities of the Central Anti -Corruption Bureau “include a total of 16 locations in Warsaw, Katowice and Gdańsk and in the Mazowieckie, Śląskie, Pomeranian and Lublin provinces.” He reminded that the investigation is being conducted by the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Gdańsk, and they were initiated from the notification of the National Tax Administration. He added that at this stage there is no detention at this stage.
Some activities in this case the prosecutor's office entrusted the CBA delegation in Warsaw, including at the headquarters of the Polish Olympic Committee, the Polish Basketball Association and the Polish Basketball League, with which Piesiewicz is or was associated. He managed PLK SA from January 2018 to June 2023, the helmsman of the basketball federation was from November 2018 to October 2024, and from April 2023 he is the president of the PKol.
Dobrzyński added in a later statement to the media that CBA agents secured invoices, documents and electronic data carriers to the investigation conducted by the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Gdańsk. “Everything seems to indicate that they could be fictitious invoices, i.e. certifying untruth. These invoices were issued by a private entity belonging to a private person. They were issued, among others, to the Polish Basketball League or Polish Basketball Association and at this stage I can't speak about the details” – explained Dobrzyński.
A spokeswoman for the Polish Olympic Committee Katarzyna Kochaniak-Roman confirmed in an interview with PAP that CBA agents had been conducting activities at the organization's headquarters from the morning. “We are gradually preparing documents for them, which we have been asked to provide. These are the originals of documents that were already in the possession of the services, because we provided them with copies at various stages of the control. Maybe even more than we convey now. However, according to what we've declared many times, we cooperate with all services and control institutions,” said PAP KOVENIAK -ROMAN.
The Minister of Sport and Tourism Sławomir Nitras referred to the situation in social media: “There was clearly lack of reflection and reflexes. And what it ends, athletes know best. This is not a problem of one man. This is a shadow on the whole institution.”
Later in the Sejm Nitras told journalists that – in his opinion – Piesiewicz used the protective umbrella of President Andrzej Duda for months, and the price for this was the delegation of the president as a candidate for the International Olympic Committee. In addition, he drew attention to Piesiewicz's closest associates on the PKol Board, such as Mieczysław Nowicki, Teresa Sukniewicz and Tadeusz Mytnik.
“Where are their names today we can find? Their names we find in the honorary committee of Karol Nawrocki. And this is a question for Karol Nawrocki, to his staff, what Karol Nawrocki will do, if, God, he was chosen as president? He will be chosen as president? The President of the PKol referred to the matter at a press conference, convened in the afternoon in an urgent mode at the organization's headquarters. Piesiewicz announced that CBA agents had searched, among others In his houses and his parents that his computer and his wife and his wife were secured.
“This is an amazing correlation of events. Yesterday a meeting with several people with Prince Lubomirski took place. We discussed a long time and a strong declaration was made on my part – I will not give up cigareting in PKO, because I was elected in democratic elections. I have nothing to complain about and I invite everyone willing to elections in 2027” – emphasized Piesiewicz, who called the services.
Answering a few media questions, he did not want to respond to the words of Minister Nitras, that the president of the PKol would act in a criminal group. “We are not able to break down his every word. Apparently we led 92 million from PKol, then I was a VAT criminal. I will not fall to the level of this gentleman, because it does not make sense. Let's let the services work” – he explained.
When asked by PAP, whether he, according to his knowledge, has a majority in the PKol management board, replied that he knew the circumstances of signing the letter by the presidents of sports unions demanding his resignation. “We are one Olympic family and we will not be divided,” he emphasized.
Piesiewicz explained that in 2025 no PKKo management board took place, as inspections are underway. “The Management Board (March – PAP) has been postponed because the NIK control is still ongoing. We wanted to present all post -inspection applications on it,” he concluded.
At the beginning of March, the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Gdańsk announced the initiation of an investigation into the suspicion of committing crimes by the President of PKol. According to her, there is a reasonable suspicion for Radosław Piesiewicz to have financial and economic embezzlement in 2022–24. They were to consist of, among others On “issuing as part of your own sole proprietorship, in short intervals, performed by the intention taken in advance, unreliable VAT invoices for a total amount of approx. PLN 9.3 million.”
In Thursday's communiqué, the prosecutor's office confirmed that CBA activities are related to this investigation and lead to the security of documentation related to the issue of unreliable invoices, in the context of sponsorship agreements concluded by PLK SA and PZKosz, and additionally secured at the PKOk headquarters also relate to the activities of the Olympic Sky Sky Sp. Z oo
The prosecutor's investigation is another edition of the conflict around PKol and Piesiewicz. His Zarzew was the poor result of Polish athletes at the Olympic Games in Paris and ambiguities in the face of how to spend funds, both budget and obtained from state -owned companies, in combination with the fact that Piesiewicz was the first president who collected remuneration to reach up to 100,000. PLN per month. The agreements of those companies with sports relationships, which were concluded via PKO, also aroused controversy. All this meant that subsequent patrons of Polish sport began to terminate the PKol agreements and most of them completed cooperation with him. At the same time, inspections at the PKol began, among others Kas and the Supreme Audit Office and the President of Warsaw as a supervising body registered in this area of the Association.
Minister Nitras became the face of the settlement, associated with the opposite side of the political scene than Piesiewicz. The resolution of the PKol Board was also a disputed issue, adopted in the absence of one -third members of this body, recommending the application as a candidate for a member of the IOC President Duda, whose second and last term at this office will end in August.
This coincided with the internal post -inspection report of the audit committee critical of the PKol authorities, which called, among others to regulate the principles of paying remuneration to the president or clarifying the provisions on sponsorship agreements with the participation of sports relationships. To this day, however, the Management Board has not dealt with this issue, and the general meeting – which, according to the Audit Committee, should be convened as soon as possible – is planned for June.
Minister Nitras and some of the heads of Polish sports associations called Piesiewicz several times, whose term of office lasts until 2027, for resignation. This, however, does not intend to leave the PKol and consistently denies the accusations.
This year, however, there was no meeting of the authorities – the Presidium or the Management Board – PKol. Originally planned for February, later postponed to March they were dismissed by the president. The last meeting of the board, which consists of 59 members, took place on December 12. According to the opposition, it is a typical time on the board. A general meeting is planned for June, which is only to be a reporting nature.
On Wednesday, a meeting of the president was held and activists supporting him with representatives of the internal opposition, which – according to PAP – did not make anything and no constructive decisions were made, and the parties remained at their positions. (PAP)
