The word Lucifer does not appear even once in the Bible, in the Hebrew and Greek original. It appears in a Latin translation a few centuries later, but the word is never used explicitly as a name for the devil, says Jared.

It is believed that a verse in the book of Isaiah from the Latin vulgar (a translation of the Bible from the late fourth) initially led to confusion, and the name remained.

Contrary to the popular imagination, according to the Bible, the devil is not a big, red, frightening, horns, fork and cloak. In fact, almost everything we imagine about the devil is simply wrong, Jared says.

The mustache and/or beard are from the Pan god, and the staple and the tights come from a play about Faust. The wings come from the hell of Dante, and the red skin is probably a reference to the Egyptian god Set. And the fork, of course, the Roman god of war (Mars) bears a spear, and the Roman god of the underground world (Pluto) bears a two -tip tool called Bident, he explained.

In fact, we have no artistic representation of this character before the 6th century. When he appears for the first time, in a fresco in Ravenna, Italy, is described as blue.

What the Bible says
