The information was transmitted on Wednesday, April 16, by sources in the field of defense, quoted by Agerpres.

Among the strategic facilities that reflect the common Romanian-American commitment are the American forces dislocated in the rotational system on the 57th Air Base in Mihail Kogălniceanu, as well as the Aegis Ashore missile system, integrated into the NATO defense system.

The quoted sources emphasize that the modernization of the 57 Air Base from Mihail Kogălniceanu, supported by a government investment of over 2.5 billion euros, will turn the location into a regional strategic hub for NATO. The project is planned for 20 years, in four stages, and will allow the hosting of up to 10,000 Romanian and Allied soldiers.

The American military presence in Romania, supported by these major investments in the defense infrastructure, contributes to the strengthening of regional security and to discourage potential external threats.

Currently, over 1,700 American soldiers are dislocated in Romania, mainly in the bases of Mihail Kogălniceanu, Deveselu and Câmpia Turzii.
