FPV (“First Person View”) drone operators within the Terra air recognition unit, part of the 3rd Assault Brigade in Ukraine, managed to detect and hit a M-1989 Koksan howitzer. The bombing took place in the Kursk region of Russia, writes the Ukrainian Defense Express.

Video images with the fighting operation were published on Monday, April 14, on the official channel on the Ukrainian Unity Telegram.

The 177 mm-self-propelled self-propelled cannon was hit while moving to a new firing position.

The Russians tried to protect the objection, while moving it, using an improvised “cage” – often nicknamed “steak barbecue” – but this has been inefficient, according to Ukrainian forces.

The Ukrainian pilots of the drones managed to send a projectile next to the metal protective frame and thus hit the vehicle with the objection through an open hatch, which caused it to set on fire.

In February, the Ukrainian army announced that its forces had hit and destroyed a North Korean self-propelled howitzer Koksan М-1978, on the East Front of Ukraine.

The group of forces Hortitia (“East”), responsible for the defensive on that front sector, claimed that it was the first time since the beginning of the conflict when a М-1978 Koksan howitzer was hit by a Ukrainian drone.

“In the Luhansk region, the fighters of the 412 Regiment separated from Drone Nemesis hit a North Korean M-1978 self-propelled artillery vehicle, very rarely, which has a 170 mm cann cannon,” the Hortitia group said, in a statement published on the Telegram Messessry application.

Ukrainian forces said that North Korean howitzers Koksan were first observed in the war in October 2024.

Also in February, in an interview published in the South Korean press, the head of the Ukrainian Military Intelligence Service (Hur), General Kirilo Budanov, said that the Phenian participates in the Russian War against Ukraine to acquire fighting experience and to modernize his military technology.

Up to 12,000 North Korean soldiers were held in the Russian Kursk region last fall, to support the Russian forces to counteract the Ukrainian military incursion launched in early August 2024.

The number of North Korean artillery pieces on the battlefield increased, and the North Korean missiles became more accurate, according to the statements made by Budanov in the respective interview.
