Russia's attack on the city of Sumî on Sunday of Flowers, in which more than 30 people died and were injured more than 115 people, was launched 48 hours after Donald Trump's emissary met with Vladimir Putin for discussions, notes Sky News.

Steve Witkoff spoke on Friday with the Russian president for four hours, according to Russia's state media, which is the latest round between Washington and Moscow.

While Witkoff can “have the desire for peace”, he is not an “experienced peace negotiator,” said Analist Elisabeth Braw from Atlantic Council, an American think-tank specialized in international relations.

The Swedish expert in hybrid wars also believes that the attack at Sumî was a “signal” for the rest of the world, given that it took place so soon after Witkoff's discussions with Putin.

“If Russia were a country willing to show goodwill, it would be very easy not to attack Ukraine,” Braw said.

“It is an incredibly challenging act, one that Russia did not need to carry out for any military reason. It was a signal for Ukraine, Americans and the rest of the world,” said Elisabeth Braw.
