About 55,000 people were on the streets of Belgrade on Saturday to participate in a meeting in support of President Aleksandar Vucic, whose power control has been threatened for months of anti -corruption protests, according to BBC and Reuters.

People from cities in Serbia, Kosovo and Bosnia arrived on Saturday by buses to participate in the Belgrade meeting. The participants, who according to a monitoring organization were about 55,000, gathered in front of the Serb Parliament building.

“The colorful revolution has ended,” Vucic told his multitude of supporters before the Parliament. “They can go as much as they want, but nothing will come out of it.”

The meeting is seen as a response of Vucic at the great anti -government rally on March 15, when over 100,000 people participated in the largest protest in recent decades. Despite the fact that some followers of the President of Serbia traveled from neighboring countries, participation was significantly lower than in the protest of that time.

In Serbia, anti -government demonstrations took place for months after 16 deaths caused by the collapse of a train station triggered accusations of generalized corruption and negligence.

The protests increased and included students, teachers and farmers, representing a major challenge to Vucic, a popist in power for 12 years as prime minister or president.
