Franco Morbidelli surprised the Ducati pilots, Francesco Bagnaia and Marc Marquez, after leaving the ranking at the end of the official training before the Qatar Grand Prix race.
Even at the end of the evening training session on the “Lusail” circuit, the pilot VR46 Ducati achieved a time of 1: 50,830, taking over the first position. This result of the Italian is only 0.041 seconds weaker than the absolute record of the Qatarese track, established by Jorge Martin in last year's qualifications.
The second in today's session was Bagnaia, who was the first pilot to get down below 1:51, with a time of 1: 50,975. The podium was completed by his teammate, Marc Marquez, just 0.022 seconds behind the double world champion. Fabio di Giannantonio and the leader of the general Motogp ranking, Alex Marquez, were also ranked.
Di Giannantonio was 0.299 seconds slower than his teammate, Morbidelli, while the Marquez brothers were 0.406 seconds of the first position. Following him, they qualified directly in the second phase of tomorrow's qualifications Fabio Quartararo, Pedro Acosta, Maverick Viñales, Ferin Aldeguer and Johann Zarco, completing Top 10.
The first pilot to miss the direct qualification was Alex Rins, who was only 0.030 seconds slower than Zarco in the fight for the tenth position. Together with the Yamaha pilot, in the first 15 minutes of the fight for the pole position tomorrow will participate Luca Marini, Joan Mir, Brad Binder, AI Ogura, Enea Bastianini, Jack Miller, Raul Fernandez, Marco Bezzecchi, the world champion, Jorge Martin, who returns to Motogp this weekend, Augusto Fernandez and Somk. Chantra.
During the official training in Qatar there were four falls. Their protagonists were Chantra, Augusto Fernandez, Miller and Binder. Chantra and Fernandez fell into turn 4, Miller in turn 7, and Binder in the first turn. The falls of Miller and Binder took place during the time attacks at the end of the training, which compromised the chance to fight for a place in the top 10.
The weekend for the Grand Prix Qatar, the fourth stage of season 2025 in Motogp, continues tomorrow at 4:00 pm, with the second free training session on the “Lusail” circuit, which will last 30 minutes. Immediately after its completion, at 4:40 pm, the qualifications for the sprint and the main race in Qatar will begin.
