Vlad Mihalache, national champion at 50 m butterfly, about changing from the Olympic program: “I was waiting for this moment”
Vlad Mihalache (18 years old) won 50 m butterfly at the Otopeni National Championships and spoke about the introduction of short tests in all procedures in the Olympic program starting with the Los Angeles 2028.
Vlad Mihalache, a European junior champion last year at 200 m flutures, was imposed on the national championships in the 50 meter butterfly, registering his best time, 23.53 s.
“I am very pleased, it is my best time! It could not be better, I am very pleased,” said the swimmer at Steaua. His previous terminal was 24.43 s. He was followed in Thursday night's race from Otopeni by Denis Popescu (23, 63) and Andrei Ungur (24.08).
Two days ago, the International Olympic Committee announced that from Los Angeles 2028 will enter the Olympic program and 50 m butterflies, 50 m bras and 50 m back. So far only the one from Liber was swim at the Olympic Games. “I was really amazed and happy! It is a step forward, I have been waiting for a long time that all the evidence that are in the World Cup and the European to be at the Olympic Games. Anyway, I train everything that is butterfly, this is my process! ”, said the young swimmer.
Vlad Mihalache's dream is to become an Olympic champion, but up to this year he has a goal competition. “The Under-23 championships in Slovakia and now I have achieved the qualification goal, there is a final.

Darius Coman has twice improved national record
Also in Thursday night's session, Darius Coman managed to improve the national record at 200 m bras. He corrected what he had succeeded in the morning session, when he stopped the stopwatch at 2:14, 54 with a time of 2:12, 76. Until the Otopeni championships, the national record in this test belonged to Dragoș Agache and was 2: 14.73.
David Popovici prevailed at 200 meters free with a time of 1.45, 07, this being the best time of the world season.
