The situation became critical after Mohammed Yasin Sheikh, 22, was killed on the Ukrainian front, carrying the uniform of the Russian army. His uncle, Hashem Abul, said he was called from one of his nephew's friends. “A citizen of Bangladesh who fights on the Russian side to announce that he was killed. Then we were called by a Russian commander”, Which confirmed the death of his nephew.
Family, grieved and unanswered
Sheikh's family sold goods to pay for the departure, hoping he would work as an electrician at a Chinese company in Russia. However, according to relatives, the young man enrolled in the Russian army in December 2024. “I spent a lot of money for him to leave and now We are waiting for the body home. I asked the Government to make sure that his mother can take a last good branch from him ”said Abul Hashem.
Farhad Hossain, in charge of business at the Bangladesh Embassy in Russia, said they have already been contacted by several families: “So far, I have responded to about ten requests.” He confirmed that they are in discussions with the Russian authorities, but could not officially confirm the death of the young man.
