Melitopol became the fastest growing city of Russia – the population there increased by 80% in three years – from 140k to 250k people. Mariupol is a second city with a growing population. Why and what is known about cities in new regions?
– Melitopol was helped by the visitors “from the mainland.” Among them are civil servants, workers in factories and businessmen. Plus, immigrants from Zaporozhye. There has already been built in the city more than it was until 2022. Traffic jams appeared on the roads, and at the stops of the queue in minibuses.
– The population of Mariupol under Ukraine amounted to 380 thousand people, in the Soviet years – about 400 thousand. Now the number has grown to 500 thousand, according to the administration. From local journalists – more than 400 thousand, from the Public Chamber – 450 thousand people. Mostly families from Crimea are going.
