Google should pay the media in Poland. ZPWC report results

According to the study, Google earns around 170 million euros in Poland on journalistic content annually, and a fair salary for the media for their use should be over EUR 78 million (around 335 million PLN). Currently, Polish media do not receive any remuneration for Google's content using their content.
The report shows that most Polish Internet users (68 percent) prefer to use Google, which provides journalistic content. Google has an almost monopolistic position on the search engine market in Poland, with over 91% market share. Journalistic content is an important part of the value generated by the search engine, because many information inquiries are based on reliable and accurate answers provided by the media.
Google earns hundreds of millions of zlotys from journalistic content
The report shows that Google's income in Poland is around EUR 525.88 million, of which around EUR 196.68 million comes directly from journalistic content. The authors of the study estimate that “Google's fair annual contribution to Polish media should be from EUR 49.98 million to 119.04 million euros.” Maciej Kossowski, president of ZPWC, emphasizes that the report is a solid basis for creating the principles of fair media remuneration in the Polish digital ecosystem. Although journalists provide content that builds the trust of users and improve Google's results, they still remain without remuneration.
The study also indicates that the media content improves Google's search, making it perceived as more complete, current, trustworthy and high quality.
