Victor Ponta compares Ciolacu's emissaries in the US with the characters in Miami Beach. “When you are prime minister you do not need to put someone's piles”
Victor Ponta, who is applying as an independent for the presidential elections in May, believes that Romanian politicians have not understood how politics in the US works. He states that “pile” is not needed, but an ambassador to be accepted and compatible with Donald Trump's current administration.

In an extensive interview with “Adevărul”, Victor Ponta was compared to Marcel Ciolacu's emissaries in the US, Dragoș Sprînceană and Lucian Romaşcanu, with the characters from Miami Beach and again emphasized that the new Trump administration has brought another way to make politics, which must be aligned.
Truth: So, do you disagree with Ciolacu's approach to relaunch diplomatic relations with the US?
Victor Ponta: In no case. Not in the formula with sent two people like in Miami Beach, I don't know, in Miami, that was called that movie. This is how Mr. Ciolacu appeared. It means you don't understand anything about how politics works in America.
I want the president, I said I have a new new model, a person like President of Finland, Alexander Stubb. He was also prime minister and now he is president. He went to Mar-A-Lago, played Golf, lost … and I will lose in front of Mr. Trump. After which he resolved. I will always lose. Will always be better than me. I am a politician and I understand certain things. After that he left there with some good things for his country, Finland being a richer country than Romania. So, this kind of policy must be done at the level of the president. We need another ambassador and I will not be able to understand why Romania does not put an ambassador to Washington.
The current ambassador was close to the past administration, ok. Put an ambassador to be accepted and compatible with the current administration. He was a very good ambassador (no – George Maior). Because, if I'm not mistaken, it was in the first term of the Trump administration. So, from this point of view, you do not need to send emissaries or, again, Miami Beach characters.
“We don't have to laugh anymore”
Truth: Do you find people inappropriate?
Victor Ponta: And the people and the method. Everything is inappropriate. It shows that you do not understand how politics is made. The president or prime minister must establish a personal relationship. When you are president or prime minister, you do not need someone to tell you piles. Mr. Bolojan was not in a position to create a connection. Probably the US administration would not have wanted to talk to an interim president.
Truth: The fate of the government will decide after the elections. What could we do?
Victor Ponta: Let's not laugh, as we made us these days. (…) Romania at this time was put alone in this situation. We did not cancel the Russians or Americans. We canceled them. So, I repeat, we should not laugh during this period.
Truth: Do you think a person in the diaspora cannot be suitable?
Victor Ponta: It can be a very good ambassador to Washington a person in the diaspora. But a person with status, preparation, with prestige, we do not put (…).
Truth: Do you know Dragoș Sprîncean?
Victor Ponta: I saw him on the TV and it was enough. I don't want to meet him more than that.
A president of the County Council is not the counterpart of the US President

Victor Ponta: President of the County Council in Buzau. Now, between the president of the Buzău County Council and the President of the United States, it is quite difficult to make a relationship, right? That's how I would think, with my mind. I don't know who thought otherwise. With all respect – and I love Buzau County very much – but it cannot be homologous to the President of the United States. The President of Romania is homologous to a smaller country, but they are homologous. The president of a county, any county in this country, all respect them, is not Donald Trump's counterpart!
Truth: What would be the right approach?
Victor Ponta: I was better doing nothing until May. Insurance for Americans, for Europeans that this time the elections are not canceled and that the result voted by the Romanians remains. You can do so. Nothing else until then.
