Monte Carlo was not only the top tennis scene, but also the place where the best players in the world made their voice heard for change. Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Stefanos Tsitsipas and others at the top of the ATP ranking have sent a common letter to the four Grand Slam tournaments – asking what they consider to be: a fair part of the profits that their game generates.

While in the Principality the first great Masters tour of Spring is held, in the shadow of spectacular points there is a battle outside the land. The elite of world tennis has united its forces and has transmitted a clear message: it is the time for bigger earnings, according to Sportal.blic.rs.

The huge change proposed from the ATP peak

All the top 10 players signed a letter to the Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon and US Open organizers, demanding a significant increase in money prizes.

“At the Grand Slam tournaments we receive about 15% of the revenues, while in other tournaments the percentage reaches up to 30%. It is not correct. If other tournaments could increase the prizes, can the Grand Slam. We ask that this percentage is doubled.”said Novak Djokovic, in an interview with journalists at Monte Carlo.

The arguments of the players are not without reason. Casper Ruud recently presented data that US Open generated Revenue of about $ 500,000,000 last year, while the awards fund was “only” $ 70,000,000.

Zverev went even further and claims that tennis players receive only seven to eight percent of the total revenues of the Grand Slam tournaments.

“We do not expect and should not expect a 50-50 division as in the NBA, but there must be a correct minimum division. This is the most profitable part of our sport and we deserve a larger slice of this cake,” the German said, emphasizing the need for players in the dialogue with Grand Tournaments.

In addition to the request to raise the prizes, the letter also contains a proposal regarding a greater involvement of the players in the decision -making process. Djokovic stressed that players want to be involved in the process that directly influences their career and that they are willing to sit at the negotiation table.

“We do not ask for everything at once, but we ask for a long-term dialogue and change, which is logical and necessary,” Novak added.

Although the voices within the ATP circuit are becoming more and more united, it is interesting that the situation is a little different in the players – the only one who has not signed the letter is Elena Rybakina. Stefanos Tsitsipas, who defends his title at Monte Carlo, also commented on the desired change.

“Tennis often separates us, but it is time to be united. It is clear that the light of day that the current prizes do not reflect our contribution,” said the Greek.

In a world of sport where marketing contracts, television rights and sponsors bring hundreds of millions of dollars, tennis remains an exception in terms of low profit distribution. And while players are ready to lift the rocket – not for service, but for justice – it remains to be seen how the four Grand Slam tournaments will react.
