The Central Electoral Bureau ordered the elimination from the social networks of some materials considered as “electoral advertising”, which did not comply with the legal provisions regarding the election campaign in the online environment. Among them, some were favorable to Nicușor Dan, but the mayor of the capital transmits that he has no connection with any of these accounts.
The BEC decision was made following a referral filed by a natural person who claimed that Tiktok “were displayed videos on at least 30 accounts that are associated with the candidate Nicușor Dan, taking advantage of an aggressive promotion, carried out with the eluding of the national legislation in the electoral field and by the abusive exploitation of the social media algorithms”.
In the case of some of these accounts, BEC admitted the notification, similar decisions being made in the case of accounts that were favorable to other candidates, such as Victor Ponta or George Simion. In another case, the Fake-New Content was eliminated against Crin Antonescu, the Coalition candidate.
BEC ordered the removal of online electoral materials. The measure was applied to more than half of the analyzed materials
Thus, one of the materials eliminated by the office is from a tiktok account entitled Nicusordan.2025. The respective posting is an explicit urge for one vote for the mayor of the capital: “a vote for another candidate, with ideas similar to Nicușor Dan (Elena Lasconi, Daniel Funeriu), means a vote for Antonescu or Ponta, a vote thrown in the garbage, a vote against the USR and the reformists.”
As a result of these decisions, Nicușor Dan's campaign team transmits that there are no links between the candidate and the accounts mentioned by the bulb.
“Nicușor Dan's official tiktok account is checked by blue (@ first name) granted by the platform to public persons. All the posts on this account fully comply with the electoral legislation in force. Nicușor Dan does not take responsibility for any other account on social platforms,” the campaign team said.
At the same time, the campaign staff of the mayor of the Capital expresses the dissatisfaction that the names of the candidates have been mentioned in the decisions published by the Central Electoral Bureau, although there is no association between the candidates and those who posted materials that are favorable to them.
“Any association, whether voluntary or involuntary, of the unofficial accounts with the name of a candidate should be avoided in the communications of the institutions,” Dan's statement said.
