The Belarusian Ministry of Information has expanded the list of forbidden books by 92 items that can potentially cause damage to national interests – the independent Euroradio.FM portal said on Tuesday. Among them were the titles “Behind the Iron Curtain” by Anne Applebaum and “Atlas of the Cloud” by David Mitchell.

This is not the first book of American journalist and historian, privately the wife of Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, who was on the Belarusian list. Earlier, the book “Gulag” appeared on it.
The list also included the autobiographical novel “Farewell to Berlin” by Christopher Isherwood published in 1939. This book was the inspiration for the creation of a film directed by Bob Fosse “Kabaret” with Liza Minnella in the lead role. As a reason for the ban, the appearance of LGBTQ+threads was given.
The list also included: “Curses of innocence” by Jeffrey Eugenides, on the basis of which a film was made directed by Sofia Coppoli, “My Giovanni” James Baldwin, “Lonely Man” by Christopher Isherwood, “House at the end of the world” by Michael Cunningham, “Thief” Sarah Waters and “I have a few questions to you” Rebecka Makkai.
The book “It's Perfectly Normal: Changing Bodies, Growing Up, Sex, and Sexual Health” (“It's completely normal: body change, growing up, sex and sexual health”) is forbidden. I do H. Harris.
The list of “extremist materials” kept by the Ministry of Information was created in 2008. Another items, including independent media, social and political social accounts and book titles, go to it on the basis of court decisions. Currently, the list has 1578 pages. (PAP)
