The demonstrations, brought together under the Hands Off slogan, are organized by the Moveon group, along with dozens of other progressive, union and environmental organizations. In total, over 1,000 protests are scheduled throughout the country, including in the state capitals, informs The Guardian.
“It is announced to be the biggest protest of a single day in the last few years in the history of America.”said Ezra Levin, co -founder of the Indivisible group, during an organization call.
The largest rally is scheduled at the National Mall in Washington DC, where several Congress members, including Democrats Jamie Raskin, Maxwell Frost and Ilhan Omar will hold speeches in front of the protesters.
On the movement website, the organizers warn that: “Trump, Musk and their billionaires orchestrates a total assault on our government, our economy and our fundamental rights – with the complicity of the Congress.”
They accuse an alleged “Power capture” Which would lead to the closing of the social security offices, massive dismissals, the elimination of consumer protection and the destruction of the Medicaid program, in favor of some fiscal policies dedicated to the ultra-rich.
The protests take place in the context in which Donald Trump announced the new customs rates, which led to a collapse of the stock market. Despite the economic effects, Trump said on Friday that “My policies will never change.”
Saturday's event reminds of Women's March in 2017, organized immediately after Trump's first choice. Then, about 470,000 people protested in Washington DC, and another millions went out throughout the country, marking the largest one -day protest in US history.
