Two police officers from the Antcarcotic Office branch (Offast) in Marseille (South) were charged in Paris on Friday by the investigating judges for drug trafficking and money laundering, among others, the Paris Prosecutor's Office announced, AFP reports.
The investigations “revealed exchanges between police and other people related to the transfer of at least 360 kg of cocaine, outside any hierarchical control, and hiding some quantities that entered the French” during a drug monitored in Colombia, in February 2023, according to Agerpres.
At the end of the arrest period, which began on Monday, the two policemen were charged on Friday for “importing and trafficking in organized group, money laundering, criminal conspiracy, false in public documents and damage to private life, registering or transmitting the image and words of a person”.
The Paris Prosecutor's Office asked for their placement in preventive arrest to prevent them from consulting.
An investigation was initiated on the basis of anonymous information in February 2023, regarding the arrival of a cocaine transport in the port of Marseille, sent with containers from Colombia, and intended for the Paris region, the Paris Prosecutor's Office.
“Within this investigation, it was agreed to monitor the arrival of a transport of 180 to 200 kg of cocaine; it was proved that this delivery allowed the entry of almost 400 kg of cocaine on the territory,” according to the prosecutor's office.
The initial investigation was closed in January 2024, without arrests.
