GSP.ro has written in the last period, twice, about the extremely serious problems that the national arena faces: scorojit walls, broken and detached, missing bulbs, ceiling and plaster. General Mayor Nicușor Dan is up to date with the situation and offered a first reaction on this subject.

At the beginning of February, GSP.ro presented for the first time the images of horror on the largest stadium, inaugurated in 2011, in which over 200 million euros were invested.

National Arena degrades from day to day

Then, rThe Eporters of the Sports Gazette have shown that at the FCSB – Manchester United match in the Europa Leaguethe guests from England received a lodge in a deplorable state: scarred walls, broken bells, missing bulbs, ceiling and fallen plaster.

It was not the only lodge in such a state! This is how most of the “rooms”, which, match by match, receive people who pay important amounts for a certain level of comfort.

The walls are stained with infiltrated water, the plaster is fallen, and serious pieces of paint have been detached or are about to fall at any time.

Disaster on the country's largest stadium

It has been more than a month, and GSP reporters returned to the stadium administered by the General City Hall. The workers entered the lodges and made repairs: they painted and spent the affected areas, but not entirely.

Next, in the lodges on the 1st and 2st floors, the walls show clear signs of damage caused by humidity, and in some areas there are visible traces of mold.

Around the resistance pillars, the structure is affected, there are portions where the ceiling has given up. The plaster is fallen, and serious pieces of paint are detached and can be a danger to the spectators present at the parties.

Repairs of the National Arena: minimum 3 million euros!

Another month has passed since the last material published by the Sports Gazette, and the situation is still unchanged.

In a statement to the Antena 1 observerMayor Nicușor Dan acknowledged that he knows about the problems at the National Arena.

“He never had a construction maintenance! We have to do an expert to see what needs to be modified. There are some structural elements that require interventions. I estimate quite high costs … somewhere around 15-20 million lei!”said the general mayor, for the quoted source.

That is, for the National Arena to look like new again and to repair the affected areas, the municipality has to allocate at least 3 million euros! An amount that is not provided in the capital budget for 2025!

When there are heavy rainfall, we face infiltration and various degradations in the arena appear. We were unable to intervene to stop the cause. The arena I don't think she was thought of as a profitable business. It would be desirable and good to be on zero. That is, let's talk about the coverage of at least expenses. Certainly not thought of as a business

National Arena, Huge Financial Hole for Capital City Hall

The largest stadium in Romania continues to record a significant financial deficit. According to the statements of the general mayor, Nicușor Dan, the revenues generated by the stadium in 2024 amounted to about 1.2 million euros, while the expenses reached almost 4 million euros. So a huge loss.

The situation is not a new one. In previous years, the financial balance was just as unbalanced:

Thus, the municipality was forced, year by year, to cover losses of the order of millions of euros to maintain the national arena.
