Marco Rubio: Russia must decide to peace within a few weeks

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in Brussels that Russia would have to in a few weeks – not months – decide whether it is serious about peace or not. He added that President Trump is not interested in dragging negotiations and will not accept the Tactics delaying the Kremlin.

At a press conference after a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Brussels, Rubio said that the Ukrainians showed a desire to complete the weapon to create a space for peace negotiations. “Now Putin and the Russian Federation are quite quickly, and not, for example, in six months they will have to decide whether they are serious and want peace,” said the head of American diplomacy.
He emphasized that he hoped for this, because “it would be good for the world if this war ended.”
Rubio pointed out that Moscow knows the position of Washington when it comes to the desire to end the war, and emphasized that President Donald Trump is not interested in dragging negotiations in a situation if the Kremlin wanted to use delay tactics. “The president is improperly in the trap of endless negotiations on negotiations,” he assured.
He added that it is Russia's actions, and not the words will show whether she is seriously approaching the room. “For me, at the end of the day, what matters is whether we strive for peace or not. If the room is real, we will soon find out. If (Russians) are not interested in peace, we will soon find out about it and we will make further decisions on this basis,” he said. He admitted that in this matter he could see both “disturbing signs” and “giving hope”.
Rubio admitted that the US first awaits the suspension of weapons and then negotiations to develop conditions of the final room. He assured that the United States intend to cooperate with both sides, although both Ukraine and Russia would have to make some concessions. “We do not intend to determine what concessions it will be, because they will depend on what Ukraine and Russia accept,” he admitted.
The American diplomat added that negotiations cannot last forever and that these are not threats directed against the Kremlin, but this is due to reality, because members of the American congress have already started to submit projects to laws increasing sanctions for Russia. “So there will be pressure from the Capitol to impose sanctions that we will not be able to stop if we actually do not progress towards peace,” he said.
Rubio added that all this information was provided “in the nicest possible way” to the Russian negotiator Kiriłł Dmitrijew, who on Wednesday flew to Washington, where he met with a special envoy of the US President Steve Witkoff, for months participating in negotiations regarding the truce in Russia's war against Ukraine. “Let's hope that he will pass this message back to Moscow, and explain that we must start seeing true progress, otherwise we will have to conclude that they are not interested in peace,” Rubio said.
When asked by journalists, an American politician admitted that he knew that Russia violated the trucement of the truce regarding the failure of energy facilities. “This is not a good sign. But I can only say that the war is still going on, so we will be dealing with attacks both in Ukraine and within Russia,” he commented.
Rubio: It was the Greenlanders who said they want to be independent of Denmark
The head of American diplomacy Marco Rubio commented on Friday in Brussels, US administration announcements about the desire to take over Greenland, saying that no one annexed the islands and that the Greenlanders would make their own decision about their future. He noticed, however, that the Greenlanders said that they wanted to become independent of Denmark.
Rubio, who on Friday after the meeting of foreign ministers of NATO countries in Brussels, met with American journalists, repelled the allegations of the premiere of Denmark Mette Frederiksen, that it was unacceptable, that one of the allies in NATO threatens the other taking over the territory.
“Well, nobody annexed anything. The decision will belong to the Greenlanders,” Rubio said.
The Secretary of State of the US said that also the American vice president of JD Vance, who came to Greenland last week (the visit lasted several hours and limited himself to visits to the American base), he expressed clearly that he intends to “respect the law of Greenlanders to self -determination.”
Rubio noticed, however, that at some point it was the inhabitants of the island who made it clear that they want to be independent of Denmark. “Denmark should therefore focus on the fact that the Greenlanders do not want to be part of it. We did not give them this idea because they have been talking about it for a long time,” said the Secretary of State of the USA. He added that if, however, the inhabitants of the island decide to break away from Denmark, then the United States will potentially be ready to enter and say “OK, we can create a partnership with you”.
To journalists' questions, why in that case President Donald Trump said that he did not rule out the takeover of Greenland by force, Rubio replied that the president was misunderstood, because he meant that he did not intend to exclude the American army, if Greenland was attacked by a foreign power, such as China or Russia.
The relations between Washington and Copenhagen are recently tense due to the regularly repeated announcements of President Trump that Greenland, the autonomous dependent territory of Denmark, should become part of the United States.
On Thursday in Brussels, Rubio met with the head of Danish diplomacy Larske Rasmussen. In the conversation, the issue of American claims against Greenland was also raised. Rasmussen later said that he conveyed Rubio that “Trump's statements reached a level that was not in line with international law” and that he had the impression that he was “heard”.
Rubio: The markets did not break down after the declaration of duties, they adapt
The head of American diplomacy Marco Rubio said on Friday in Brussels that it is not true that the markets collapsed after Donald Trump announced new duties. “Markets have reacted to a dramatic change in global trade order, but they will adapt,” he assessed.
According to him, allegations that Americans demand from allies to increase defense expenditure, and at the same time hit their economy, imposing customs, are “unfair”. Just like suggesting that the American duties have led to the collapse of the markets. “No, the markets do not break down, but react to a dramatic change in global trade order,” said the American secretary of state.
The politician explained that the situation is very simple. “If you are a company and produce your products in China and suddenly your shareholders realize that production in China will cost much more, your actions will fall. But ultimately the markets will adapt, they only need to know what rules apply,” he said. “So I do not think that it would be fair to say that the economies break down. They react so because they are based on the value of the shares of companies that are today set in production methods that are unfavorable to the United States,” he added.
Rubio noticed that the US considers themselves the largest consumer market in the world. However, in fact, the only thing they export are services. “We must end it and return to the times when we will be a country capable of production and able to provide jobs to Americans. And to do about, we must reset the current global trade order,” he explained.
He expressed the belief that this would allow Americans to become independent of production from China. “What China is doing is outrageous. They don't consume anything, everything they do is export, flood and disturb the markets. Of course, apart from all the tariffs and barriers they introduce,” he said.
According to Rubio, President Trump rightly came to the conclusion that the current status of global trade is bad for America, but good for many other countries, and he was absolutely right that he decided to change it.
On Wednesday, Trump signed a regulation imposing “mutual duties” in the amount of at least 10 percent. For goods imported from abroad, in the case of EU goods they will amount to 20 percent. The rates announced by the US are to constitute half of the summarized duties and non -charming trade barriers used by other countries. In the case of China, the tariffs will amount to 34 percent. (This rate will be added to the previously announced 20 % of duties; will be 54 percent), Japan – 24 percent, India – 26 percent, South Korea. – 25 percent
