Donald Trump recognized Antifa as a terrorist organization

“I am pleased to inform numerous American patriots that I qualify Antifa, a sick, dangerous, radically left -wing disaster as a significant terrorist organization. I will also strongly recommend a thorough examination of people financing Antifa, in accordance with the highest standards and legal practices” – wrote Trump on his social portal Truth Social. His entry was posted late at the British time, where the US president is visiting.

The president has already signaled that he was in favor of this step, announcing actions against leftist organizations that he blames for the promotion of political violence and for the murder of activist Charlie Kirk.
During his first term, Trump planned a similar step in the result of anti -political riots after the death of George Floyd, but eventually did not. It was, among others The result of resistance within the administration, including former head of the FBI Christopher Wray. Wray claimed that he could not consider any national organization terrorist, because this would violate the constitutional freedom of members of these groups.
Critics also pointed out that Antifa, an anti -fascist movement derived from Germany, is not a classic organization, but a loose collection of various groups without a central structure and leaders.
It is not clear what in practice means the announcement of Trump, because in the American law there is no formal category of “significant terrorist organization” (Major Terrorist Organization), but only “foreign terrorist organizations” (Foreign Terrorist Organization, FTO). Entering the FTO list gives the American authorities extended opportunities to prosecute members of organization – also outside the US – for supporting their activities or financing them.
