The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, along with his mother and sister, was received on September 12 in the audience by Pope Leon XIV. The discussions aimed, among other things, to restore peace on the European continent.

The leader of Chisinau stressed that the meeting with Pope Leon XIV was an honor for her, mentioning that he had discussions with it “Peace, about the faith that keeps us together and about the path of our country for a better life. We told them about the kindness and generosity of Moldovans, about how our people remain deeply attached to Christian values. ”
“Even in hard times, when the Soviet regime deported priests and transformed the churches into stables, people guarded how the holy places could and kept the living faith. We also talked about how, with a war at the border, we knew how to show compassion and solidarity. This is how we became known as a small country with a big heart. Faith and humanity hold our resistant and worthy nation. It has assured me that Moldova is seen, that Moldova is heard. With the will of God and through our work, we will make a future in dignity and peace, in the great European family ”, Maia Sandu mentioned in a post on her Facebook page.
The President of the Republic of Moldova wanted to thank him “For the important moral support for the European course of the Republic of Moldova”.

In the margin of his visit to the Vatican, the President of the Republic of Moldova also had a meeting with the Cardinal Secretary of State, Pietro Parolin, the two having discussions about Chisinau's efforts to promote peace, stability and regional security.
Three -day visit
The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, undertakes a working visit to Italy on September 10-12, 2025, where he had both with both the Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni and the president of the Ignazio Senate in Russia, pointing out that Moldovan-Italian relations have become closer in recent years.
“Italy has supported Moldova with projects worth 90 million euros, including to help vulnerable families to pay their energy invoices. And today we have good news: from November 8, 2025, the agreement on the conversion of Moldovan driving licenses to Italy will come into force. Also, from September 1, 2025 Moldovans who worked here can receive a pension for the worked years, whether they choose to stay or return home. The visit to Italy takes place after the one in the city of Strasbourg, France, where the President of the Republic of Moldova had meetings with the president of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, and with the head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas. The discussions concerned the support of the European Union for the European course of the Republic of Moldova.
Also in Strasbourg, the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, had meetings with the leaders of the European political groups, being the group of the European People's Party, the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats, the Renew Europe group, the group of European Conservatives and Reformists and the Green Group.
“The head of state discussed the need to continue the firm support of the Community Legislature for the EU accession, including by the economic support granted to our country. Maia Sandu also welcomed a decision to open in Chisinau a connecting office of the European Parliament. During the discussions, the president emphasized the progress of our country on the European road, the importance of maintaining the democratic course and ensuring the integrity of the elections, as well as the need for a common response to the current security challenges. The head of state emphasized that Moldova can ensure its peace and security through an active diplomacy based on solid relationships with its partners and neighbors ”, It is shown in a press release of the Chisinau Presidential Administration.
On the same day, the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, spoke a speech in the plenary of the European Parliament, approaching the parliamentary elections at the end of the month that he described as a crucial battle, as well as the threats of the hybrid war taken by Moscow against his country.
Moreover, from the European Structure Tribune, Maia Sandu listed the lessons learned by his country, being on “The front line in the fight for democracy”. Subsequently, Maia Sandu was applauded for long by those present in the plenary of the European Parliament.
