Under what conditions can students go for free by train and how can they take their tickets and subscriptions

Students can travel free of charge by train, throughout the school year, based on the student card/card for the current school year or the valid school certificate for the current school year, CFR Călători reported on Monday.

The students from the accredited/authorized pre -university education benefit, throughout the school year, based on the student's book/legitimacy for the current school year or the school certificate valid for the current school year, by: by:

• Free travel tickets in domestic traffic, at all categories of trains (R, IR, IC), 2nd class, including the free reservation tariff for reservation regime trains;

• Free monthly subscriptions with unlimited number of travelers, 2nd class, at all categories of trains.

• For the upper class trip or to the sleeping and cushion wagons, the students will fully pay the tariff differences and the reservation fee.

Period of validity of facilities

The facilities granted on the basis of the visa for the 2024/2025 school year are valid until September 30, 2025, inclusive. Exception: The students for whom the 2024-2025 school year is a terminal no longer benefit from these facilities from September 8, 2025.

Starting with October 1, 2025, the facilities are granted only on the basis of the documents concerned for the school year 2025/2026.

Issuing tickets and subscriptions

Free travel tickets can be purchased from:

• the ticket offices from the railway stations with their own staff and the travel agencies CFR Călaturi;

• Online and from the CFR Călaturi ticket automates located in the stations, based on the student ID valid for the school year obtained after the confirmation/validation of the student's quality at the ticket offices;

• Train staff, based on the student card/card, in the following situations:

• The climb station is not served by ticket offices or the boarding is outside the program of ticket offices;

• The station is not served by CFR Călaturi staff.

Starting with October 1, only the student IDs for the 2025/2026 school year are valid.

Free monthly subscriptions can be obtained from:

• ticket offices (on cardboard type) from railway stations with their own staff and CFR Călatori travel agencies;

• Online, through the downloadable application on the phone in the form of a QR code with dynamic elements and from the CFR Călaturi tickets, based on the student ID valid for the school year obtained after confirming/validating the student's quality.

Documents required when issuing tickets/subscriptions

For issuing free monthly tickets and subscriptions for students, the following documents are required:

• the student's card/legitimacy for the current school year, with first name, first name and CNP;

• or the certificate issued by the educational unit according to the model GD no. 810/2023;

Other types/models of certificates for issuing students' travel tickets/subscriptions are not accepted.

Checking on the train

When checking the legality of the train trip, the students must present the following:

• the valid free ticket/subscription (in original or QR code for digital ones);

• an identity document (CI, passport, residence/driving license) or, for those under 14, the birth certificate (original/copy);

• In the absence of an identity document, the student card/card can be presented (only if included photography and CNP).

Attention

Students who do not present the mentioned documents will be considered without a ticket/subscription and will be charged according to the legislation in force (the train charges will be applied, superior to those from the ticket offices).
