“As for the conflict in Ukraine, I am convinced that Vladimir Putin is completely wrong. The war he caused is terrifying, “emphasized the artist in a statement sent to the CNN station on Monday.

“However, no matter what politicians do, I do not think that breaking the artistic dialogue is a solution that can help with something,” he added.

On Monday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine stated that Allen's participation in the Moscow Film Week is a disgrace and insult to all Ukrainian filmmakers killed by the Russian troops.

The organizers of the International Film Week in Moscow, which takes place on August 23-27, informed earlier that Allen would perform as a guest of honor and take part in an online conversation. The event is sponsored by Russian state media, state -owned enterprises and Moscow authorities.

CNN said that 89-year-old Allen took part on the weekend in an online conversation with the Russian director Fiodor Bondarczuk, Putin's ally, who openly supported Russian aggression against Ukraine.

Kiriłł Dmitrijew, Putin's advisor, said that Allen's participation in the event shows that Russia is not isolated and art should build bridges.

Allen is the winner of four Oscars. His achievements, however, are accompanied by controversy about private life. Over three decades ago he was accused by Farrow's ex -partner of sexual harassment of their adopted daughter Dylan. Dylan herself as an adult woman also told about violence from her adopted father.
