The German Chancellor has no illusions in the matter of Russia

“We try to intensively lead to the end of this terrible war by all means” – said Chancellor Merz during the Land Congress of his CDU party in Bonn.
According to Chancellor, however, this fails because “All efforts made in recent weeks have been contrasted with an even more aggressive behavior of the regime in Moscow towards the population in Ukraine.”
Thus, in the opinion of the German head of government, the war will not end until there is a situation in which Russia will no longer be able to lead it for economic reasons, “and perhaps also military.”
The Chancellor stated that European countries “together with the United States are trying to find a common path to achieve this.”
French President Emmanuel Macron said on Friday that he and Friedrich Merz would talk during the weekend by phone with US President Donald Trump. According to the French President, Putin deceived Trump that he wanted to meet with the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelnski. European politicians argue that for this reason there should be a sanction regime to Russia.
