Three people died and 94 were injured on Saturday in the derailment of a train in the northwest of Egypt, the sanitary authorities quoted by the DPA, taken over by Agerpres, announced.

The accident occurred in the Coast Province Marsa Matruh, the Ministry of Health announced in a statement.

The railway authorities claim that seven wagons derailed as the train was traveling on the Marsa Matuh – Cairo route.

The Egyptian Minister of Transport, Kamel Al-Wazir, went to the scene and ordered the formation of a technical commission to determine the cause of the accident, the national railway said in a statement.

Initially, the Egyptian news portal Al-Youm Al-Sabaa reported that the incident took place following a tin, which caused a suspension of the railway circulation.

The worst railway disaster in Egypt's history took place in 2002, when a passenger train caught fire, causing the deaths of over 360 people.
