Cristian Diaconescu, presidential adviser on national security and head of the Chancellery of President Nicușor Dan, spoke about the Ukraine war and negotiations for the conflict, on Thursday, at Antena 3, and said that Romania has “red lines” over which it cannot be passed.
“At any negotiation on security guarantees, without neglecting all the regional elements, first of all, Romania's security is extremely important, so from the point of view of Romania, Poland, of the Baltic states, I say from now, I cannot materialize, because I do not realize what the format will be, because it has to cease, first, we will have the domain,”
The presidential adviser on national security says that “certain compromises, concessions in Romania will not be able to be made.”
“The red lines refer, for example, beyond what the mouths of the Danube, to the rules of the right of the sea regarding the delimitations of the territorial sea, the continental platform, the exclusive economic area. We hope, 2027, the fact that Neptun Deep and the operating areas will be operational, from this perspective I am convinced that our partners will add this,”
He also excluded a possible dislocation of Romanian troops in Ukraine.
“From the point of view of Romania, it does not exist at this time and there will be no decision regarding the dislocation of the military or of a physical military presence in Romania in the conflict area,” said Cristian Diaconescu.
Asked if in the negotiations carried out over the years there was any reference made by a Russian official to generate us long-term concerns, the former head of Romanian diplomacy confirmed: “Yes, namely that from the point of view of Moscow the extension of the North Atlantic Alliance, as well Risk, represents a threat to the interests of the Russian Federation, and those who enter these processes … ”.
“It is exactly the same message that is transmitted to Ukraine at this time-those who enter these processes must understand that they are in a conflict situation with the Russian Federation. So the fact of wishing to be part of these organizations would automatically represent a violation of the interests of the Russian Federation, and the mouths of the Danube, yes, represented an element transmitted to a proper level,”
