One person was killed and several apartments and an industrial installation were damaged following an attack with Ukrainian drones on the Saratov region in southern Russia, the governor said on Sunday, according to Reuters.

Roman Busargin told Telegram that the inhabitants were evacuated after the remains of a destroyed drone damaged three apartments following the night attack.

“Several inhabitants needed medical care,” Busargin said. “The aid was granted on the spot and a person was hospitalized. Unfortunately, a person died.”

Russian air defense systems destroyed 121 Ukrainian drones during the night, including eight in the Saratov region, the Ministry of Defense said.

The military department reports only the number of drones shot down by its defense units, not the number of Ukraine unanswered flights. Busargin did not specify what kind of industrial site was damaged.

The images broadcast on the social networks showed a dense black smoke that was rising above what seemed to be an industrial area. Reuters checked the location seen in one of the videos and confirmed that it corresponds to the satellite images of the area. But Reuters could not check when the video was filmed.

The Ukrainian media, including the RBK-Ukraine news agency, reported that the oil refinery in the city of Saratov, the Administrative Center of the region, caught fire following a drone attack.

Reuters said he couldn't verify this information. There was no official comment from Russia.

The refinery in the city of Saratov, owned by Rosneft, was forced to suspend his activity earlier this year for safety reasons, after Ukrainian drone attacks, industry sources said.

The Russian Telegram Shot channel, which often publishes information from sources from security and law enforcement services, reported that about eight explosions were heard above Saratov and Engels, separated from the Volga River.

The Russian authority for civil aviation, Rosaviatsia, told Telegram that flights to and from Saratov were suspended for about two hours on Sunday morning, to ensure air safety.
