The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana Țoiu, met on Friday with the Romanians from Cernăuți, who asked them to take steps in addition to the Ukrainian authorities to protect the educational units with teaching in Romanian, Agerpres reports.
The executive president of the Bucovina center independent of current research from Cernăuți, Prof. Aurica Bojescu, warned that the closing of schools with teaching in Romanian could gradually lead to the loss of the identity of the Romanian community.
“The theme of education is the most important, because, if we do not have school, we will not have a church, we will not have our national identity. In this context, the schools are the ones we still hold. In order to have a school, they must have students, they must have a lot, but we must have a lot,
She said that “any other ways” than teaching in the mother tongue “does not help children”.
“We want the education process to be teaching it in the mother tongue. Why? Because any other ways do not help children. If we now give up school, it means that we will give up what is more expensive,” added Aurica Bojescu.
The deputy mayor of Ostrița commune, Dan Crâșmaru, asked for the support of the Romanian state for the rehabilitation of the Romanian high schools in the Cernăuți area, stating that the Ukrainian state does not invest in such educational units, and the laws in Ukraine provide for harsh conditions regarding the accreditation of high schools, one of the conditions being one of the conditions.
What Minister Oana Țoiu said
The head of Romanian diplomacy claims that on Thursday in Kiev he discussed with the Ukrainian authorities and about education in Romanian and the protection of the Romanian community.
“A topic we discussed was the Romanian language first and foremost, and we have the commitment of the authorities that they will go on with the procedures for declaring the day of August 31, the Romanian language celebration. We believe that this is an important sign of respect and recognition and this was a thing on the working agenda,” said Oana Țoiu.
Minister Oana Țoiu also asked the community questions about the impact of the Education Law in Ukraine.
“We also asked the questions from the community related to the impact of the education law on high schools with teaching in Romanian. Here, they assured us that we will be part of the dialogue.
“Please, if possible, return to those scholarships”
The president of the Romanian Youth League Junimea, Vitalie Zîgrea, pleaded for the reintroduction of scholarships dedicated to students and teachers from the Romanian schools.
“I do not know if the Romanian community would have resisted without your support. A huge help was for our children the scholarships they also received for teachers as well. So, please, if possible, to return to those scholarships. Ukraine is in the war, the situation is quite complicated. One year of education, ”said Zîgrea.
He also asked for the rescue of Professor Aron Pumnul, where the poet Mihai Eminescu lived for a while.
