The Minister of French culture will be tried to court. She is accused of trading in influence
Dati is accused of “passive corruption and trade in influence by a person exercising a elected public office in an international organization (in this case in the European Parliament)” – he said without giving his name (in accordance with the standard practice regarding the reporting of certain criminal matters) in a statement an official from the Ministry of Justice.
Ghosn, considered to coincide both by France and Japan after a daring escape from Tokyo in 2019, is in turn accused of “abuse of power by a member of the company's management”, “abuse of trust” and “active corruption and trade in influence”.
The statement stated that in the years 2010–2012 Dati received from the subsidiary Renault 900 thousand. euro (PLN 3 million 827 thousand), officially for advice. Investigators, however, claim that she did not perform any or almost any actual advisory services, and the remuneration received for the use of her position at that time a member of the European Parliament to lobby for Renault and its then president.
The current minister of culture, which previously served as the Minister of Justice during the presidency of Nicolas Sarkozy, was covered by a formal investigation in July 2021.
Tuesday's advertisement took place at a crucial moment for Dati. The 59-year-old judge would probably be candidate in next year's election at the meter of Paris and is considering starting in the upcoming supplementary elections against former Prime Minister Michel Barnier to represent part of Paris in the National Assembly, the Chamber of Lower French Parliament.
The representative of Dati did not immediately answer at the request of Politico for comment. The minister had previously denied all allegations in this case. Ghosna's lawyer did not immediately answer at the request of Politico for comment.
Ghosn has lived in Lebanon since the escape from home custody in Japan in 2019, where he was accused of financial abuse. He has Lebanese and French citizenship.
The arrest warrant of Ghosno in connection with this case was issued by the French justice system in 2023, but Lebanon has long been refusing to extract its citizens.
