What does it do and what is his rights?


- Sławomir Cenckiewicz was indicated as the new head of the National Security Bureau.
- The National Security Bureau was established in 1991 and operates on the basis of the Act on the Defense of the Homeland from 2022.
- The BBN is a tool of the President of the Republic of Poland in the field of security and defense and the facilities of the National Security Council.
- The organization and scope of the office is regulated by the ordinance of the President of the Republic of Poland of September 15, 2023.
- The current head of the National Security Bureau, General Broni, res. Dariusz Łukowski, serves as from February 4, 2025.
The National Security Bureau, established in 1991 by Lech Wałęsa, currently operates on the basis of the Act of 11 March 2022 on the defense of the homeland. The President of the Republic of Poland with the help of the BBN performs tasks in the area of security and defense. In addition, the office acts as substantive, but also organizational facilities of the National Security Council, which is convened by the president. The head of state defines the organization and scope of the office on the basis of statutory authorization.
The BBN duties include
- Implementation of tasks entrusted by the President in the field of security and defense, including the preparation of the concept and plans to manage national security
- Supervision over their implementation on behalf of the president
- monitoring strategic, internal and external safety conditions, preparation of assessments and applications for the president
- giving opinions, but also developing strategic documents and legal acts in the field of security
- Monitoring and opinions on the activities of the Polish Armed Forces, as well as development programs, as part of the president's sovereignty
- Cooperation with other authorities in security matters
- giving opinions on the activities of authorities and state units in the sphere of non -military security
- Substantive and organizational service of the National Security Council
Currently, the scope of action and organization of the BBN operation is regulated by the ordinance of the President of the Republic of Poland on September 15, 2023.
Seventeenth head of the National Security Bureau
Currently, the organization and the scope of the National Security Bureau regulates by the ordinance of the President of the Republic of Poland of September 15, 2023. The ordinance provides that the office includes such organizational units as the International Security Department, the Internal Security Department, the Department of Sovereignty over the Armed Forces, the office of the head of the office and the vertical of the plenipotentiary for the protection of classified information.
Sławomir Cenckiewicz will become the seventeenth head of the National Security Bureau from the beginning of the functioning of this unit. Currently located in this position, General Broni Dariusz Łukowski has been occupying them from February 4, 2025.
