Zosima Bee

On this day, the Orthodox Church celebrates the memory of St. Zosima.

In the Russian People’s Calendar, Zosima for several days, and all of them in one way or another are associated with bees. In particular, in July Zosima, the bees begin to bring honey into the hives and pour honeycombs. Therefore, the beekeepers tried not to disturb insects in vain; If you had to pass by the hive, it was necessary to conspire: “Roy, buzz, fly to the field! Come back from the field – carry the honey!”.

Other customs were common among beekeepers, the observance of which guaranteed a good collection of honey. Among them were both rational (for example, to settle under the lids of the hives that destroy pests) and ritual (for example, as a victim for the spirit – the patron saint of beekeeping in the ground, buried a jug with a mead).

Bees in Rus' have always been revered. This is evidenced by many proverbs, sayings. Among them are the following: “The bee is God's saint, it delivers wax to candles”; “The bee is sole only a sinner”; “For a bee, every lesson is light”; “Bee to ruin – what to kill a person.” There were special signs: if the bees fly to the hives – it is soon raining, and if they sit on the walls – to severe heat.

In addition to Zosima, on this day St. Job was often remembered. It was customary to pray to this righteous to get rid of unfair resentment and all sorts of slander.
