Norikel will create more than 100 materials in the industry on the basis of Palladium by 2030

By 2030, Norkel plans to form a portfolio of more than 100 materials based on palladium, which will be in demand in a wide range of industries at the world level. This was told by the head of the Center for Palladium Technologies of Norilsklya Dmitry Izotov at the PMEF-2025.
He noted that the number of new technologies that are being introduced very quickly. Therefore, it is very important for large companies not to lose competitiveness. To do this, you need to have tools for rapid development and testing of prototypes.
“They can mainly be offered only groups with many years of competencies. In this sense, the close interaction of the business with external scientific groups is inevitable, ”said Dmitry Izotov.
He recalled that Norkel at the end of 2023 created the Palladium technology center (CPT) As a platform for developing new Palladium -based solutions. It is necessary in order to expand the potential of the industrial applications of this rare dragmetal. Now the use of Palladium is concentrated in one large area of car accident, but
The scientific potential of its industrial applications has not yet been disclosed.
“To fulfill this goal, it is necessary to create a little less and display to the world market by 2030 100 materials in demand in the industry based on Palladium. Let's try to decompose this task from an organizational point of view: on the one hand, 100 projects with various types of materials (catalysts, alloys, photocurettes) for various industries (from petrochemistry to alternative energy and microelectronics), on the other hand, the company has sufficient internal competencies and concise implementation periods, ”said Dmitry Izotov.
CPT accompanies projects on the entire life cycle: from the development of technology to its laboratory, experimental and industrial tests, finalizing and providing a license for the production and use of new material. Now Norkel is already working with more than 20 scientific groups from 5 federal districts.
“Such a model of interaction is beneficial for all participants in the process: universities receive a commercial implementation of scientific competencies plus new approaches to project management. We get the opportunity to implement projects as soon as possible and based on the internal center of competencies to gain access to leading world consumers, which is critical to determine the right targeted characteristics at the start and create products with strong competitive advantages. At the same time, for the state, a strong foundation is created to ensure technological leadership, ”the company representative explained.
This approach has already allowed to reach the average development and laboratory testing period of 9 months. Other leading scientific centers do this work in 1.5-2 years.
“At the beginning of this year, the first commercial part of 500 anodes for disinfection of water was launched into industrial operation, which, according to the results of 5 months of work, showed a decrease in energy consumption by 18%,” said Dmitry Izotov.
The Nornikel is sure that the interaction of science and business will expand. Also in the fall in the Lomonosov cluster in Moscow will earn a palladium laboratory, which will be open to the professional community and will become the point of entering the Norilsk Nickel technological ecosystem.
