The PSD will undoubtedly be part of the future government, says the president of the UDMR, Kelemen Hunor, who emphasizes that the presence of his party depends on the ministries he will receive following the negotiations.
“The government will be with the PSD, no doubt. The PSD will be there, I have no doubt. After yesterday, it is clear that PSD and PNL have the most important, force ministries. USR has secured with the 4 ministries,” Kelemen Hunor told RFI, quoted by Antena3.
He confirmed the information that appeared on sources that at this moment the understanding is for the UDMR to receive in the future government the ministries of development and culture.
“It must be seen if it remains that way. We have no influence on major decisions, it may be without us. It would be correct, if you have no major influence, not just decor. We will decide with colleagues as a result of the negotiations as we close the discussions,” said Kelemen Hunor.
Asked if his statements say to the presence of the UDMR in the future government is not sure, Kelemen Hunor confirmed.
“Why should it be safe? If you can without us? There is no altruism, it is just arithmetic. When you are just decor, you have no tools, you have no strength ministries, then you are there just to be a decor. This was in 2023,” he explained.
Hotnews reported on Tuesday, citing sources inside the parties, that in negotiations between the four parties came to an agreement on the premier rotary. For his part, PSD spokesman Florin Manole said it is a “very probable” variant.
In contrast, in today's intervention from RFI, Kelemen Hunor catalogs it as “a fundamental mistake”. “Rotary has bankrupt Romania. Going on the rotary from the beginning is a strategic mistake,” he said.
The representatives of the four formations will have a new round of negotiations today, from 11.00 am, at the Victoria Palace.
Nicușor Dan announced for Thursday consultations with the parliamentary parties. The next step is to designate the prime minister. The negotiations will start on Thursday with the PSD delegation from 11.00 and will end at 14.30 with that of national minorities. Consultations are the last constitutional step before the president officially announces who is appointed prime minister.
