The Pew Research Center interviewed people from 24 countries, including 10 in Europe, from the end of February to the beginning of April, finding that the share of respondents who have a favorable opinion about the US decreased in most of these states, compared to the spring of 2024.
The respondents have little confidence in Trump as a world leader or in his ability to approach the global challenges, from the wars in Ukraine and the Gaza Strip, to the climatic changes or immigration policies, the survey shows.
When Donald Trump was first chosen, in 2016, the world popularity in the world has decreased similarly, but the country has returned to previous levels during Joe Biden's presidency, according to Pew data, a US-based think tank, which describes itself as Nepartisan.
In Europe, an exceptional situation in terms of Trump is Hungary, the only country in which most respondents trust the US president.
In contrast, most of those questioned, from all interviewed countries, agreed that Trump is “dangerous “and” arrogant “and few think it's honest.
However, most see most as a “strong leader ”. Along with Donald Trump, the survey also measured global confidence in French President Emmanuel Macron, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President XI Jinping.
Of the four, Macron has a solid advance, with an average of 46% that express their confidence in the French leader, compared with 34% for Trump, 25% for XI and only 16% for Putin. At home, however, Macron is less popular – only 35 % of French respondents have expressed their confidence in the Elysee Palace leader.
