The president issued a decree prohibiting foreign students to enter the country in order to study at Harvard University, and his administration threatened to receive academic accreditation from the Columbia University.
“It just seemed unthinkable that we would find ourselves in a situation where huge federal funds would be suspended, we are threatened to introduce provisions attacking our tax status, and now new problems related to foreign students have appeared,” said Bollinger.
The federal judge issued a temporary order blocking the Trump directive limiting Harvard's access to foreign students. However, the administration uses its reaction to Harvard resistance as a warning for other universities that may oppose.
Federal officials press to universities to negotiate. They raise allegations regarding anti -Semitism on campuses and influence of foreign governments. Like Bumerang, Trump's opposition returns to initiatives for diversity, equality and integration.
