A former PNL minister, USR member of less than a year, is applying for the party leader

Violeta Alexandru announced on Monday evening, after the similar announcement made by Dominic Fritz, that she is in the race for the head of the USR party. Currently, she is USR senator. Violeta Alexandru is a USR member from the end of August 2024, that is about 10 months. In the message in which the candidacy announces, Violeta Alexandru attacks the PSD, a party with which USR is in negotiations for the formation of a government with PNL and UDMR.

Violeta Alexander was the Minister of Labor in both governments led by Ludovic Orban. She resigned from PNL in 2021. At that time, Violeta Alexandru pleaded for the restoration of a ruling coalition to be part of PNL, USR and UDMR.

After the PNL, she joined the party founded by Ludovic Orban, the force of the right, where she was vice-president and member of the National Bureau, until the end of August 2024, when she announced the transition to the USR. The USR leader from that moment, Elena Lasconi, said that the arrival of Violeta Alexandru in USR is “a big win for our team”.

Previously, in November 2015, Violeta Alexandru was chosen by Dacian Cioloş for the position of delegated minister for public consultation and social dialogue.

Violeta Alexandru: “We need a leadership to inspire”

In a message sent to his party colleagues on the internal groups, obtained by Hotnews, Violeta Alexandru says that she is convinced that “it can be better”.

“We can be clearer in the vision, more courageous in action and closer to the citizens. I have entered politics not to make sterile compromises, but to change the way politics is done in Romania – with honesty, doctrinal coherence and results,” says Violeta Alexandru.

She claims that the USR can “become the engine of the real reforms in society”, but says that for this it is necessary to lead the party to “inspire, unite and bring again, in the foreground, balanced and well anchored in the needs of the people.

Violeta Alexandru, subtle attack at Sorin Grindeanu, the current interim president of the PSD

She says that USR must be a modern “transparent, prepared and determined” party.

“A party that is not afraid to take on firm positions, but who knows and build bridges, not just attract likes. We are not allowed to cant in reactivity and criticism. We must become again proactive, relevant and convincing. I propose a new beginning. Not perfect, but honest and worked. And you think it can be better, I call you with me to rebuild the USR that Romania needs ”, it is shown in the message sent to its party colleagues.

She says that Romania does not need a USR to selfie with “the one who issued GEO 13”, most likely a reference to the Dominic Fritz, interim president of the USR currently, for the formation of a PSD, USR, UDMR Government.

“Romania needs, more than ever, an alternative to PSD socialism, the answer being a party of capitalism, labor and correctness, not a USR to selffie with the one who issued GEO 13,” wrote Violeta Alexander.

In a message that covers almost two pages, obtained by Hotnews, he sends USR members that the party should be one with a center doctrine, in the context in which USR presents itself as “modern-right-right”.

In addition to Dominic Fritz and Violeta Alexandru, another 10 members were registered at the head of USR, according to HotNews sources, but they are considered in the party to be “without chances”: it is: Constantin Gheorghiță (Diaspora branch), Marin Ciubăncan (Cluj), George Ungureanu (Tulcea), Andreea Cristian Ianc (Bihor), Luiza Elena Oancea (Diaspora), Vasile Gabriel Filip (Constanța) and Alex Cojocaru (Bucharest), Eduard Răducan (Argeș) and Mihai Mihăilă (Bacău).
