Mark Zuckerberg wants to develop his own generative artificial intelligence. And to make it intelligent, the chief of Meta relies on the users of Facebook and Instagram platforms. The company has announced that it will use their users' data to train their algorithms from Tuesday, May 27, recalls Libre Belgique.
The photos and public posts of the users of both social networks owned by Meta, the new name announced in October 2021 by Mark Zuckerberg are targeted. The move since then was meant to emphasize the reorientation of the company to the so-called “Metvers”, a project that has made very few progress in the meantime.
Like many other Silicon Valley companies, Meta has now directed her efforts to develop artificial intelligence (AI), but users can prevent Meta from exploiting their data.
Inaction means consent to meta
Previously questioned about this new generative artificial intelligence project, Meta said that it does not conflict with European confidentiality legislation.
Meta claims that he will not use private messages or content from users under the age of 18 because “this is a personal content that our users have not posted online with the idea that they were used for artificial intelligence purposes.” But the company considers public messages to be legitimate for training its model ai
Meta will have been obliging the users of her platforms to be used to use their data to train AI instruments, but in Europe her plans have been suspended following the objections from the European regulators.
Today, the American company project takes shape, with the argument that users have the option to refuse to exploit their data.
Even if you do not actively publish content on platforms, your past posts may be included in training artificial intelligence tools. In addition, if you are labeled in photos or mentioned in someone else's messages, these data could be used by META AI systems. So, even if you do not post content, this is not enough in itself to guarantee confidentiality.
How we disable data collection to Metai
- Go to the menu “Settings and confidentiality“, Available in the list that opens when you click on the profile photo in the upper right corner of the page;
- Then scroll down to “Center for Privacy”;
- At the top of the open page, you will see a message that starts by saying that “we always improve at Meta. In order to do this, we want to inform you that we will use public information, such as (…)”. Below in the text, you can click on the word “Oppose”, Highlighted with blue;
- Go until Thursday on the new page and enter the email address with which you made your Facebook/Instagram account where it is requested. Normally, it should already be completed;
- Click on “Send“You will then receive an email that confirms the completion of the process.
You can do this through the mobile application and website of both social networks, Instagram and Facebook. If your accounts on them are connected, it is enough to deposit an objection to any of the platforms.
