The Greek operator of the Desfa natural gas transport system has announced a tender for preparing a hydrogen pipeline that will connect Greece with Bulgaria. This is the first step towards achieving the idea of building a European corridor for hydrogen transport to Central Europe, writes the Bulgarian press.
It is planned for this hydrogen pipe to start from Agioi Theodoroi, in Corinthia, and to reach the border between Greece and Bulgaria. The study will take nine months, and the estimated cost is 1.5 million euros without VAT, informs BGNES
The auction participants must have experience in high pressure hydrogen transport projects. The purpose is to create a network that includes both existing and new hydrogen pipes to Central Europe.
In September last year, over 100 representatives of the potential producers, consumers and hydrogen traders, as well as of the industrial organizations in Bulgaria and Greece, participated in an online presentation of the construction of a hydrogen pipe between Thessaloniki and Sofia.
In 2023, the European Commission first decided to include projects for the construction of internal and cross -border networks of hydrogen transport through grants, including the project for such a Peson from Thessaloniki to Sofia.
The construction of a new reversible pipe with a length of approximately 250 kilometers and two compression stations in the Dupnița and Kulata area is planned. An interconnection point of hydrogen with the network of the Greek gas transport operator should also be built in the Kulata/Sidirokastro area (material made with Rador Radio Romania support)
