Germany Issues Security Warning to Citizens in Moscow Following US Alert

Germany’s Foreign Ministry has issued an urgent alert to its citizens registered in Russia, warning them of an “imminent security threat” in Moscow. The notice, disseminated through the crisis notification system, specifically advised against visiting the “Tsaritsyno” estate due to credible information regarding potential risks.
The warning urged individuals to remain vigilant and avoid large crowds and public places. This comes on the heels of a similar advisory from the US Embassy in Moscow in early March 2024, which cautioned against attending concerts in the Russian capital. Following that alert, on March 22, 2024, terrorists attacked the Crocus City Hall near Moscow, resulting in 151 fatalities and numerous injuries, with responsibility claimed by the Islamic State.
As of now, there is no separate official warning about the threat in “Tsaritsyno” listed on the websites of the German embassy or Foreign Ministry.
Context
- On October 31, the US Embassy alerted about a threat of “events that could lead to mass casualties” at the “Tsaritsyno” museum-reserve in Moscow, stating they were coordinating response measures with Russian authorities.
- Subsequently, the FSB confirmed receiving information from the US regarding a potential terrorist act in Moscow. Following the warning, “Tsaritsyno” was closed for “technical reasons,” and visitors were evacuated, although the park reopened on November 1.
