CFR Cluj Captain Mario Camora Critiques Misleading 1-3 Loss to U Cluj

CFR Cluj faced a disappointing 1-3 defeat against U Cluj in the second round of the Betano Romanian Cup group stage. Following the match, Mario Camora, the left-back and captain of CFR Cluj, shared his insights during a flash interview.

Camora recounted the highlights of the match, noting that his team could have achieved a more favorable outcome if they had scored first. He described the final score as misleading.

Mario Camora’s Take on the Match: “We Missed Clear Chances”

“We missed clear opportunities against their goalkeeper, then they counterattacked and scored. The same happened with the second goal: we had a great chance, missed it, and they scored again. After conceding a penalty, we tried to recover, but another error from us sealed the match,” Camora explained.

He expressed his belief that they were on course to apply pressure, especially with free kicks and crosses, but felt the game slipped away at 3-1.

Looking ahead, Camora emphasized the need for a win against Chiajna, acknowledging that other teams are also in contention. “Unfortunately, we couldn’t secure a better result today. Even a draw would have been acceptable. When assessing our chances, the score is misleading. They scored; we did not, and that’s the reality,” he said.

He remarked positively on the response from the team, including those players who had not featured much previously. “We tried hard. The first half was balanced. If we had scored first, perhaps the match would have turned out differently. But we conceded the second goal, and that’s football; they were more inspired in front of the goal,” Camora concluded in his remarks to Prima Sport.
