Zelensky Proposes Extension of Martial Law and Mobilization Until January 2027

President Volodymyr Zelensky has proposed to the Parliament of Ukraine to extend martial law and general mobilization until January 29, 2027. This information comes from the legislative project cards available on the official website of the Verkhovna Rada, indicating that the proposals have been submitted to the relevant committee for review. The documents are now accessible to lawmakers for consideration.
According to MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak from the Holos party, the parliamentary vote is scheduled for Monday, October 26. Zheleznyak noted that this would mark the 21st vote by the Rada concerning the continuation of martial law and general mobilization.
Background
- Since the onset of the full-scale invasion by Russian troops on February 24, 2022, President Zelensky declared martial law and initiated general mobilization. The last vote by the Rada to extend martial law and mobilization took place on July 14.
- Martial law includes restrictions such as the prohibition of exit from Ukraine for men aged 18 to 60 who are subject to conscription during mobilization, except for certain exceptions. Last year, in response to a petition calling for the lifting of this exit ban, the president stated that it would only occur after martial law is lifted.
