KFC to Switch Beverage Supplier from Pepsi to Coca-Cola in 2024

KFC restaurants across the United States will transition from serving Pepsi beverages to Coca-Cola products beginning next year. This marks the first change in beverage suppliers for the fast-food chain in decades, as confirmed by the company, according to reports.
The switch is expected to be implemented in all U.S. KFC locations by the end of the first quarter of 2027.
Famous for its fried chicken, KFC has maintained its partnership with Pepsi since 1986, when PepsiCo acquired the chain. Although PepsiCo later spun off KFC along with Pizza Hut and Taco Bell under Yum Brands, KFC continued to serve Pepsi drinks in American outlets.
While some international KFC locations already offer Coca-Cola products, the partnership with Pepsi in the U.S. has lasted approximately 40 years.
KFC’s Strategy
This change in beverage supplier coincides with KFC’s efforts to regain American customers who have been shifting their loyalty to competitors like Chick-fil-A and Popeyes.
Catherine Tan-Gillespie, KFC’s president for the U.S. market, communicated to employees and franchisees that the new partnership with Coca-Cola is a significant step in the company’s revitalization strategy. She stated, “A new beverage offering, along with a new partner, Coca-Cola, gives us a platform to innovate, respond to changing tastes, and provide customers with more reasons to choose us.”
Beverages have become a crucial way for fast-food chains to attract new customers. Competitors like McDonald’s and Taco Bell have diversified their beverage menus with specialty drinks and new combinations, including popular mixes known as “dirty soda,” which combine carbonated drinks with syrups and creams.
New Menu Offerings
KFC has also introduced new items such as iced coffees and milkshakes in an experimental restaurant located in Texas.
Coca-Cola representatives previously mentioned that they assist partner restaurants in developing new beverages tailored to consumer demand.
KFC’s change in U.S. restaurants signifies a new phase in the ongoing rivalry between Pepsi and Coca-Cola regarding contracts with major fast-food chains. Such partnerships are crucial for driving significant sales for the companies and enhancing brand visibility among millions of customers.
