Ukrainian Energy Facilities Targeted Following Trump’s Ceasefire Announcement

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported on Sunday evening that Russian forces targeted energy facilities in Ukraine soon after Donald Trump declared a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.
Zelensky stated, “Russians struck an electricity plant in Kyiv,” adding that attacks also occurred on energy installations in the Kharkiv region. This escalation followed Trump’s announcement regarding an “energy ceasefire,” which was shared on social media.
At approximately 8:00 PM local time, Zelensky noted that an attack had taken place on CHP-5 in Kharkiv, targeting the city’s energy infrastructure.
The Kyiv Independent cited Ukrainian officials reporting that a Russian missile hit a food store in a suburb of Kharkiv, resulting in three fatalities and nine injuries, according to Oleh Syniehubov, governor of the Kharkiv region.
Earlier, Zelensky expressed that he was awaiting details regarding the ceasefire announced by Trump from the American side, emphasizing that Ukraine supports a ceasefire, which also requires Russia’s commitment. Meanwhile, the Kremlin has yet to provide any response to the matter, as reported by BBC.
Trump’s Announcement
The American president announced the ceasefire in a post on Truth Social, stating, “An energy ceasefire in the war between Russia and Ukraine has taken effect immediately. Both sides have agreed. Do not violate it,” without offering further details or specifying the duration of the ceasefire.
In an interview with Axios following the announcement, Zelensky remarked, “If President Trump negotiated this with (Vladimir) Putin, please let us know when the ceasefire begins. We are ready and will accept it.”
