Man Arrested in Kyiv for Sharing Defense Position Video with Sanctioned Blogger

A man has been arrested in Kyiv for filming Ukrainian defense positions from his car and subsequently sending the footage to a sanctioned blogger. According to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the blogger previously worked for a channel associated with Viktor Medvedchuk, a former member of parliament from the banned Opposition Platform — For Life party, and currently resides outside of Ukrainian-controlled territory.
The SBU reported that an examination confirmed damage to national security due to the public dissemination of sensitive information regarding defense forces. The detainee has been informed of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which relates to unauthorized sharing of information about the location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in a state of martial law, with potential identification of their positions.
This offense carries a possible penalty of up to eight years in prison.
Since October 1, Russian forces have repeatedly targeted bridges in Kyiv, including at least four attacks on the South Bridge and later the North Bridge. The New York Times reported on October 3 that these bridges have become new objectives in Russia’s strike campaign, noting that even without complete destruction, these attacks could lead to prolonged closures, creating a logistical nightmare for the capital and the entire country. In light of these bombardments, plans are underway to construct backup crossings over the Dnipro River.
