A striking example is the story of the United Mining and Chemical Company (UMC).
Since 2004, Firtash's structures have been used by the Irshan and Vilnohirsky combines.
It goes there in 2019-2020 Peter Davis – former business manager of Firtash, appointed thanks to Serhiy Bayrak.
Instead of reform, there is a return of the old corruption scheme: selling products to “their own”, blocking contracts with real buyers, even using salary funds for affiliated structures.
As a result – financial losses and a blow to Ukraine's reputation on the international market.
Davis and Bayrak's connections extend to Firtash's media assets (InterMediaGroup), as well as to international companies engaged in supply of ilmenite to the occupied Crimea – contrary to Ukrainian legislation.
NABU has all the facts. But instead of high-profile cases, we see something else: in December 2024 VAX exempts Serhiy Bayrak from punishment because he “reimbursed” UAH 100,000. losses. For comparison: other members of the scheme caused damage of ≈10 billion hryvnias.
