Stubbs Warns Europe Against Overreacting to Russian Threats

Stubbs does not believe Russia can fulfill its threats

Finnish President Alexander Stubbs recently spoke about the increasing threats posed by Russia, which have been highlighted by European leaders. He emphasized that while Europe should brace for ongoing hybrid and diversionary attacks from Moscow, it is essential not to react too dramatically.

Stubbs clarified that Europe must remain vigilant, understanding that Russia aims to destabilize and instill fear. He pointed out that excessive reactions to hybrid attacks only serve to benefit Russian interests. “Each time Europeans react excessively, the Russians effectively win a battle in that regard,” he stated.

The president criticized the response of European intelligence agencies, describing their warnings as exaggerated. He mentioned that Finland has been cautioned it is “essentially next” in line for a potential Russian invasion. However, he assured that there is no evidence supporting this claim, even as the country continues to monitor the situation closely. Finland shares the longest border with Russia among NATO countries, and while there is observed activity near the border, Stubbs indicated there is currently no direct military threat.

He also noted that a full-scale military escalation does not align with Russia’s interests or capabilities.
