Gas consumption in Ukraine has fallen significantly this summer, averaging 20% lower than last year, with a notable decline of 23% in August, marking the most substantial drop in the year. Analyst Svicho attributed this reduction primarily to Russian strikes targeting major industrial consumers and port infrastructure.
He explained, “As we discussed previously in a video outlining our plans to potentially resume gas exports, the attacks on large industrial consumers and port facilities have created a surplus in the commercial segment. Consequently, we now have an excess of gas due to decreased consumption by these major users.”
This surplus has sparked discussions regarding the possibility of a controlled resumption of gas exports. However, no decision has been made, leaving the surplus to persist in the domestic market. Svicho noted, “Since exports have not been reopened, our consumption remains low, leading to this ongoing surplus of resources.”
