During a presentation on the 2022 Kharkiv offensive, former Commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, detailed how Ukrainian forces dismantled Russian defenses in the region. He reported that approximately 11,500 square kilometers and more than 500 settlements were liberated during this counteroffensive.
Syrskyi explained that the preparation for the operation required about a month. This involved withdrawing three brigades from their units and redeploying them to the Kharkiv direction, alongside comprehensive planning and logistical arrangements. While acknowledging the risks involved, he emphasized the potential for significant outcomes, stating, “We understood all the risks but saw the opportunity to achieve considerable results.”
