In a recent attack on the Zaporizhstal plant, four workers suffered varying degrees of injuries, although there were no fatalities reported. Initial assessments categorize the damage as critical, with evaluations still ongoing.
One injured worker received first aid on-site and opted against hospitalization, choosing instead to assist with recovery efforts. Meanwhile, three others with moderate injuries were transported to local hospitals for treatment.
The attack resulted in significant damage to both primary and auxiliary equipment in the blast furnace and converter shops, as well as to the energy system, networks, and logistical infrastructure of the facility.
Due to previous attacks, production at the plant had already been halted, minimizing the risk of a technological accident, as stated by Metinvest officials. They emphasized that the number of workers present at the site has been significantly reduced.
Alexander Mironenko, the operations director of the group, expressed concerns that the extent of the destruction is increasing with each subsequent strike. He noted, “Following the strikes on August 11 and 27, the plant has yet to resume production. This ongoing assault represents a systematic obliteration of Ukraine’s civilian industry, its economic foundation, and the individuals who sustain its viability.”
Currently, efforts are underway to mitigate the aftermath of the attack and assess the damaged facilities.
