In a remarkable upset at the US Open on Thursday night, Australian tennis player Dane Sweeny, ranked 123rd in the world, eliminated 14th seed Lorenzo Musetti. Sweeny won the match 3-1 in sets, overcoming an initial setback to triumph with scores of 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2.
Sweeny, who entered the tournament through a wild card invitation, struggled initially, losing the first set. However, he quickly regained his composure and took control of the match. Musetti, who had won only five games in the next three sets, faced relentless pressure from Sweeny, who achieved the most significant victory of his career in two hours and 36 minutes.

The turning point of the match came shortly after the first set when Sweeny elevated his performance. He broke Musetti’s serve twice during the second set and quickly leveled the match at one set apiece, dropping just one game.
In the third set, Sweeny continued his aggressive play, managing four break points against Musetti. The Italian struggled to respond, and Sweeny took a commanding lead, winning the set 6-2.
The fourth set saw no shift in momentum as Sweeny broke Musetti early and added another break in the seventh game, leading 5-2. He held his advantage without difficulty, completing the surprising upset in New York.
Looking ahead, Dane Sweeny will face Luciano Darderi in the third round, a critical match for advancing to the round of 16 at Flushing Meadows.
